This novella picks up where book 1, Honor Bound, ends. It’s really hard to say something about the story without it being a spoiler. About all I can safely say is that Vaan, at the urging of his brother, Saran, pays a long overdue visit to Kaban. Of course, while he’s gone, things start happening in Raasa and he races back. You’ll have to read the story to find out what the happenings were and how our protagonists respond.I didn’t notice as many grammatical errors as there were in the first book, nor did I notice that many misspelled words. The story was well told and the reader is emotionally involved (at least, THIS reader was). Michelle Howard is a fresh voice in the field of fantasy romance. She has become one of my favorite authors!

I love this couple and I was very happy that there was a continuation of their story. If you have read the first story and liked it you will really love this short story. its not very long but it does tie things in well for the next book as well as show what is going on elsewhere in the world. very well done.
I loved the continuing storyline between Vaan and Mikayla and I hope Ms. Howard continues the series in such a format. The way Vaan has changed from stoic warrior to proud father is very realistic. I find myself wanting to know more of their lives together. This is a wonderful series I wouldn't mind rereading over again and there's still more to come.
The story continues with Vaan and Miki. This was a beautifully written story that had me laughing as well as crying.
It was short but packing some major punch.
Action, suspense, drama, laughter and lots of love.
If you loved Vaan and Miki along with the other Warlords then I can promise you will love this one as well.
Michelle Howard does not disappoint.
It was a good novella following the first book. I absolutely love this series! This particular book shows how much the Overlord loves his mate. Ms. Howard has outdone herself in this series. The plot keeps you reading until the end. The characters are strong and Ms. Howard gives you insight to how they feel and think. You want this book and the first one "Honor Bound." Please hurry Ms. Howard, we want more!
You know that now and again you really want a book about how protective our guy is of our girl.. well this book is it. That is what it's all about. How can you not love it? Yes, there is another plot line to keep it interesting, but all that warm fuzzy stuff you like is here. It's a great shorter read.
Mikayla and Vaan are waiting for their youngling to be born. Vaan has to go to Kaban to tie up some loose ends after the deaths of Thenl and Dakar. Mikayla is unhappy at being home alone so close to the birth. An attack causes Mikayla to go into labor early. Will Vaan lose Mikayla even while he is blessed with an heir?
There have been many bitter disappointments and losses of honor along the way. Can Vaan and Mikayla overcome their combined histories?
Can Vaan put his deepest feelings aside to do what he must?
Watch Vaan the warlord struggle and grow in this sci-fi romance as he matches wills with his headstrong wife from a different culture. A culture that believes strange things like women can remain active throughout pregnancy and crazier still, deserve pleasure in the bed. Mikayla his strong willed, delightful wife brings not only new insights to his bed but also joy in a relationship he had never remotely considered. Not only is Vaan required to match skills and wills with his beautiful wife, he is must catch wits with the counsel of his home country that does not support his new ways.
This is the back drop of the story to come which is full of sensuality and intrigue.
Reading this novella will absolutely send you to get the opening book like it has me.
